Zbigniew Wojcik MBE
Zbigniew has spent the last 35 years campaigning and raising awareness of social and
unfair treatment towards others. He headed the first DNA campaign ever to be
brought against the imminent deportation of an Asian woman in the "Free the
Bibbi Campaign" in the 1980's. Since then he has been involved with Freedom for
South Africa, Derby Aid for Kosovo, is Chair and founder member of Derby Law
Centre, Chair of the Refugee Forum and recently Chair and founder member of
Eastern European Advice Migrants Committee. He won the MBE for his work with
the Department of Works and Pensions in getting young people back to work and
training through the New Deal programme.

Janice Bain-Tagne
Janice was born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies but now resides in Derby, UK.
She obtained a bachelor degree in Appplied Social Work from the University of Derby
and is now employed as a Service Manager with the Derby Community Mental Health Services.
Janice is practising as an Approved Social Worker and Dialectical Behaviour Therapist.
She is also trained as a Fashion Designer and has worked in the Fashion industry for more
than fifteen years.
Rev. Christopher Harrison
Christopher Harrison grew up in Chesterfield, in north Derbyshire. After
graduating in economics from Cambridge University, he worked for some years
in the Treasury in London before training for ordination. He worked in two
inner city parishes in London with large African communities before
returning to Derbyshire in 1996. Christopher is now Rural Dean of
Ashbourne, and World Development Adviser for the Diocese of Derby.
Edwin Achu
Edwin is a qualified optometrist from Bradford University. He has worked as an
Optometrist in hospital and private practice in Harlow, Watford, West Thurrock in Essex
and various other locations around the country. He moved to Derby in 2005 and
currently works as a Senior Optometrist for the Outside Clinic in Derbyshire and surrounding
counties; attending mostly to patients who are predominantly housebound, in hospitals or Residential homes.
He was a founding member and trustee of the London-based chairity Vision Care.
Peter Nyoni
Peter is a political activist who moved to Derby from Zimbabwe in 2001. He
holds a BA (Hons) degree in Business Management from the University of Derby and
an MA in Housing Policy and Practice from Sheffield Hallam University.
He is the chairperson for the Derby-Zimbabwe community group and Local Education
Authority appointed school governor for Grampian Primary School in Derby.
David Callow
David is currently a member of the Board of Amnesty International UK, a leading world
Human Rights organisation with 257,000 members in the UK.
He was also a joint founder of Derby Refugee Forum and Advice Centre in 2002 and
though retired worked for a number of years at the Derby Law Centre.
In 1999 he was involved with the Derby Aid for Kosovo where he personally made two
trips to Kosovo to deliver financial aid for the re-stocking of a hospital,
and the re-building of two schools following war damage.
Dr. Dina Abbott
Dr Dina Abbott is a development geographer and a senior lecturer at the
University of Derby, UK. She has researched and published several papers on
poverty related issues, particularly gendered poverty in developing countries.
Dina's PhD thesis, which was based in the slums of Mumbai, was amongst the first pieces
on women's livelihood and micro-credit. Since then, she has been concerned about issues
around women's sustainable agricultural livelihoods in the Gambia, and more recently
Uganda. She lives in Nottingham and is blessed with two children.
Salina Hanif
Salina was born in Derby, England, but spent most of her teenage life in Islamabad Pakistan.
She returned to England and persued a career in Theatre and Community Development.
She is currently an outreach worker at the Forum of Faith for Derby, building bridges between
people of different faiths, and promoting community cohesion.
