Eight days into the walk and it is going very well albeit very hard on the walkers Emmanuel and Khumbula.  Khumbula is writing a blog on each day of the walk - you can read the blog here.  The letter that we plan to hand deliver to No. 10 Downing Street on the final day of the walk has now been written and the Trustees are in the process of putting their signatures to it.

Today sees the start of the 17 day Barefoot Walk to London.  Emmanuel will be met at Market Place at 11am with the Mayor of Derby and many other supports to start his 'Walk of Suffering'.  He will be walking the 125 miles with the support of other walkers and 'Day Co-ordinators' to ensure that he reaches 10 Downing Street safely.  He will meet with many local groups, schools and organisations along the way.

The Derby for Africa Initiative Launch Event took place today at the Derby University Multi Faith Centre and it was an overwelming success.  Attendance was so great that all chairs were filled people were left standing at the back!  The event included a keynote speech by the former Mayor of Derby (Cllr. Pauline Latham OBE), who pledged to walk the first kilometre of the Barefoot Walk to London with Emmanuel.  The outcome of the launch event built support and raised awareness which brought about this campaign.
